About Manchester Airport
Manchester Airport is the fourth largest airport in the United Kingdom, handing more than 22 million passengers a year. It is by far the largest airport after London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London Stansted. It is the 12th busiest airport in Europe. More than 75 airlines provide services from Manchester to destinations in the United Kingdom, Europe and World Wide.
Ther history of Manchester airport goes back nearly 90 years, when the first ever scheduled airline flights began, from Manchester to Southport and then on to Blackpool.
The development of civil aviation of any volume had to wait until the end of WW2, with rapid progress made in the last 20 years. The airport is also a major centre for airfreight services. The airport is a major employer in the north west of England, supporting many tens of thousands of jobs.
Manchester airport has three terminals. The major users of terminal 1 are Air Canada, BMI,Iberia,Lufthansa, Olyympic and SAS. Terminal 2 is mainly used by Air France,Continental Airlines,Delta, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Terminal 3 is the newest terminal, used by British Airways, and domestic , European and International flights.
